Located in the North, Neverwinter Woods is a vast and ancient forest suffused with a quiet, ever-present sense of magic. Beneath that magic, there is a lingering corruption that twists the natural order.
Temple to Silvanus, God of Nature
In the woods is located a hidden temple to Silvanus, which can be accessed by his followers by entering the roots of trees in the forest. The leader of this temple was the archdruid Oloamin, one of Silvanus’ greatest followers.
In 1480 DR, the corruption in the core of the forest started to expand, causing the slowly growing cancer spreading throughout the entire forest, stalled only by the influence of Oloamin. In 1486 DR, Oloamin sent Ellora Oak, member of the Seekers and follower of Silvanus, to cleanse this corruption along with the rest of the party. After managing to destroy the source of the corruption, a powerful necromantic gem, the cursed creatures and trees of the forest were quickly purified, or disintegrated if the corruption ran too deeply. As thanks, Silvanus used his power to turn Ellora’s staff into the Heart of the Woodlands, a powerful legacy weapon.
The Mansion of Monthartas
The place which spawned the corruption. It was originally a noble house belonging to the Monthartas family.
In 1455 DR, the hag Gertrude infiltrated the mansion disguised as an advisor. Throughout the years, she managed to corrupt the General Monthartas and led him to commit terrible deeds. When he sacrificed his daughter, the curse became completed and turned the mansion into an aberration of necromantic energies.
In 1486 DR, the Seekers managed to kill Gertrude inside the mansion, and then destroy the crystal she created to spread the corruption
