Nightstone is a fortified settlement located near the Ardeep Forest (in which lies the village of Alkai Tor), in the hills between Waterdeep and Daggerford. It is connected to the High Road via a side trail.
Geography
Nightstone was located a few miles south of the Ardeep Forest, built on the Ardeep River. It consisted of a fenced island connected to an artificial motte that held the village’s keep. Its name derived from a mysterious obsidian obelisk in the center of the village that had strange glyphs carved into it and emanated a magic aura. With the assault of the cloud giants and the attack by Gorm, only ruins remain. Even the castle itself was disintegrated.
History
Over the years, the villagers of Nightstone had bad relationships with the wood elves who inhabited the Ardeep Forest. Sometime after the War of the Silver Marches, the village was bombarded by a cloud giant floating castle, killing many inhabitants and forcing survivors to escape into nearby caves.
After a band of brave adventurers managed to rescue the survivors from a nearby tribe of goblins, most of the original inhabitants decided to abandon the village. The remaining ones stubbornly attempted to rebuild Nightstone, and relations with the village of Alkai Tor improved to the point of becoming cordial.
In 1486 DR, a few days after a band of adventurers left the village to visit Alkai Tor, a powerful entity named Gorm massacred everyone inside the village to lure the group back. After his defeat by the group, the true effects of his attack became clear: all existing memories of Nightstone were erased or became blurry, as if it never existed in reality.
