Morty is the solitary gravekeeper of the Neverdeath Graveyard in Neverwinter. He lives alone in a small, weathered shack at the heart of the cemetery, emerging only to bury the dead or to ease the suffering of the living with his extensive knowledge of medicine and herbs.
His origins are a mystery to the populace, but most treat his presence as simply one of Neverwinter’s many quirks. He is known as “Old Morty” for having apparently tended the Neverdeath Graveyard for generations, even before the eruption of Mount Hotenow in 1451 DR.
In 1486 DR, the Seekers brought the body of Gnubbar, slain by Grothgar, to the Neverdeath Graveyard for burial. There, they met Morty, who promised to prepare the burial before nightfall.
Before parting, Morty shared with them a cautionary story — a warning against the corrupting nature of evil and the danger of losing oneself in its pursuit. He told them a darker, grimmer rendition of a once-popular legend: The Tale of the Eight Knights.
