The Protector’s Enclave is one of the districts of Neverwinter, named after Dagult Neverember, the Lord Protector of the city.

Most of the original buildings of this district were left unscathed after the destruction of the city. As such, the Protector’s Enclave is the only part of Neverwinter that looked like it did in its old days.

Besides Dagult Neverember and his underlings, the Protector’s Enclave was inhabited by survivors of the cataclysm as well as immigrants who took up residence in the city after its recovery. Most of the inhabitants were staunch supporters of Dagult Neverember’s rule.

History

When Mount Hotenow erupted in 1451 DR, bringing about the destruction of most of Neverwinter, the southwestern part of the city was left mostly untouched by the pyroclastic flow. This made this quadrant a primary target for Dagult Neverember when he began his efforts to rebuild the city. He later fused the City Core, the Peninsula District and the Merchant Quarter into only one area. Soon after, survivors of the cataclysm, as well as new immigrants began to quickly repopulate the district.

As the seat of power of Dagult Neverember, the district was soon renamed the “Protector’s Enclave” by the people.

Commerce

The city’s market, where all commerce in Neverwinter takes place, was located in the Protector’s Enclave. Merchants from Waterdeep and other cities of the Sword Coast had to pay high taxes to sell their wares here.

Locations

The Hall of Justice:

  • The temple of Tyr
  • Before the Ruining of 1451 DR, the Hall of Justice was located in the City Core, and after the rebuilding efforts of the late years of the 1470s DR decade, it was located in the Protector’s Enclave, fused with the palace of Dagult Neverember to better protect the seat of power of Neverwinter.
  • The church was built from stone, iron, and wood and was beautiful to look upon. It was a grand building that could comfortably accommodate giants and in its great hall, there was space enough for dragons to rest.
  • It is ruled by High Judge Olsaf, a stoic follower of Tyr.

Tarmalune Trade House:

  • The Trade House has a large warehouse located in the Docks District to store their wares. They also have an open-air auction post.
  • Unrelated to the intrigues of Neverwinter, the Tarralune merchants provided a peaceful place to make trade deals and soon became vital for trade in Neverwinter, especially among adventurers. They also sought out trade deals with nobles and merchants from Waterdeep.
  • In 1486 DR, Seekers participated in an auction and bought a variety of items: a mysterious pyramid that was revealed to contain a puzzling treasure map to an isolated island to the west of the Sword Coast, a variety of magical trinkets and a powerful +2 weapon.
  • The travelling merchant Bale also participated in the above mentioned auction, thanks to the help of Seekers.

House of Knowledge:

  • Temple to Oghma
  • The House of Knowledge is considered one of the most impressive buildings in Neverwinter, whose fame spread throughout the Sword Coast. It is an impressively tall building with many windows and an arched roof.
  • After the eruption of Mount Hotenow in 1451 DR, the House of Knowledge was badly damaged, and only in 1484 DR was it repaired.
  • It contains the greatest library in Neverwinter and possibly one of the greatest in the Sword Coast.

Five Spires:

  • A floating building composed of five connected spires, each with a different purpose. It serves as the homebase of the powerful order of the five spires.
  • The order is a group of monks following the teachings of the way of long death, led by powerful martial masters, who are in turn led by the grandmaster of the order: Master Amon.
  • The spire from which one enters the building is used to accommodate guests and serves as a reception hall. The other four spires host the regular monks, possesses a training ground, a mess hall and the quarters of the master monks respectively.
  • Due to a military alliance made with Neverwinter, the order and the building is currently located in this district.
