A siege fought at Silverymoon in 1470–1471 DR. Type: Land siege.

In 1470 DR, Kralgar Bonesnapper, the leader of the powerful Griffon tribe, reunited thousands of barbarians, war beasts and every ally he could find to invade Silverymoon and complete his life-long ambition to conquer one of the civilized cities.

When this great army rampaged across the countryside, destroying a great number of villages, their arrogance grew, believing the battle was already won. When they finally reached Silverymoon, the easy victory they sought turned into a terrible battle. Powerful mages from their arcane academy, each a master of a school of magic, defeated hundreds with powerful spells. Hundreds of powerful tattooed elven warriors joined the battle, their arcane markings granting them great martial power. When the elite warriors finally joined — powerful elven nobles bound by powerful fey energy — the battle turned in Silverymoon’s favor.

As the very beasts the barbarian army commanded turned against them, a third army joined the battle: The Calamity. Being the most powerful outlaw army on the Sword Coast, the battle turned into chaos as their rune-empowered soldiers used the opportunity to raid and sabotage both Silverymoon and the Griffon Clan. After thousands of deaths, only the emergence of the Mad Queen and the Antler King of Silverymoon prevented the destruction of the city.

As the Mad Queen called upon the ancient fey lords bound by a pact to Silverymoon, the Antler King fought the very leader of The Calamity: the Runespeaker. While the summoned fey lords caused destruction and chaos among the enemy forces, the Antler King eventually managed to drive off the Runespeaker, despite being severely wounded in the process. With both invading armies suffering heavy losses, the remnants smartly retreated — the barbarian army losing most of their soldiers, and The Calamity escaping with only moderate losses.

Outcome

  • Silverymoon established as one of the great civilized powers.
  • The threat of the Griffon tribe temporarily nullified.

Aftermath

  • The rise in prominence of The Calamity, for being the first outlaw army to fight against a city-sized army and leave with only minor losses.
  • An increase in hostility by remaining Barbarian Tribes and the eventual resurgence of the Griffon Tribe.
