Overview
The arena is the Master of the Arena’s domain and is the main tourist attraction in Calimsharn. Despite the dangers of traveling through the Desert, many wealthy patrons make the journey, usually escorted by sizable security forces.
The arena consists of multiple levels. The public has access only to the Colosseum during gladiatorial combats; lower levels are restricted to gladiators and staff
Structure
Colosseum
The Colosseum is far larger than other known arenas on the Sword Coast and can host thousands of spectators for each fight. The Master of the Arena watches over the contests from a tall pedestal, often flanked by a fiendish bodyguard. Small chambers accessible only to gladiators are used to prepare combatants.
Floor of Gladiators
Beneath the Colosseum lies a vast underground complex with no visible entrance from the outside. Rumor says only those marked by the Master of the Arena can teleport into it. This level contains a cantina, a training area, and a tavern, all exclusive to gladiators. The complex and tavern are managed by Undan, a gruff dwarf who acts as the Lords of Calimsharn’s representative to the gladiators.
Lower Floor
Below the gladiators’ level is the Lower Floor, made up of cells and cages that hold various creatures, some rumored to be sapient, for combat. Access to this floor is restricted, though favored gladiators occasionally obtain temporary permission to enter.
Lowest Floor
The Lowest Floor lies even deeper. While the Lower Floor holds creatures that might be considered sapient, this level houses true monstrosities from the Desert or the depths of the Pit. Access is highly restricted, but favored gladiators have occasionally visited. Rumor claims this floor provides a feasible route into the Pit. If true, it explains why such bizarre beasts are sometimes captured here.
