Calimsharn stands as one of the great civilized powers of the Sword Coast and is the sole existing city within the Desert. Unlike its ancient counterparts, Calimsharn is relatively young, having been established by the Lords of Calimsharn merely 50 years ago.

The city’s architecture features a distinctive three-tiered design, with massive walls separating each concentric layer from the outermost to the innermost district.

Locations

Outermost District

Innermost District

Demographics

The population consists predominantly of Humans, with a substantial Dwarven presence due to the city’s alliance with Mithral Hall. Various other non-monstrous races also reside within the city, though they represent only small percentages of the total population.

Government

The city is governed by the Lords of Calimsharn, a council of powerful figures, each responsible for overseeing a specific aspect of city administration. For instance, the Lord of Gold manages the city’s economic affairs.

Defences

Each of Calimsharn’s walls is heavily protected by a dedicated garrison and an impressive array of ballistas and cannons. While the innermost wall boasts the strongest defenses, even the outermost wall’s fortifications prove formidable enough to deter most threats. In addition to the veteran soldiers, Calimsharn maintains an elite force known as the Red Warriors - a small but powerful unit of mysterious beings bearing a resemblance to Tieflings. These warriors serve as the official leadership of Calimsharn’s military forces.

Beyond these military defenses, each Lord and their retinue represent significant military assets in their own right, should they enter battle. The Lord of Slaves, with his contingent of fiendish allies, exemplifies this additional layer of protection.

Industry & Trade

The greatest trade resources of Calimsharn are the famous Blood Stones, gold, which is thought to be created from them, and slaves sold by the Lord of Slaves.

Infrastructure

With the power of Truespeech, the city quickly expanded in size, growing from a single layer to the three layers it has now.

The outermost layer is where the greater part of the population lives, but it is also the most impoverished one, caused by frequent attacks from the beasts of the Desert. Because of this, the entire district is covered in ruined houses and shoddy shacks.

The middle layer is where the “normal” citizens of Calimsharn live, and where most of the public buildings are built, such as taverns, hospitals, and other services

The interior district is home to only a small part of the population wealthy and influencial enough to afford to live in its luxury. Most of the lords have their home here and buildings such as the university provide a greater degree of education compared to the rest of the city.

Assets

The greatest asset of the city is the mineral known as Blood Stones, mined from the mines of the city, and the various relics obtained from the ruins of the Desert. What makes this material extremely precious is the fact that it allows Calimsharn to ignore it’s greatest obstacle: The scarcity of resources in the desert. Through only an effort in Willpower, most people are able to use the essence of these stones to create valuable resources, such as water or food. This process was greatly improved through one of the creations of Doctor Craven.

Guilds and Factions

Considering the way that the city is governed, each Lord could be considered a faction within the city.

History

The city was founded 50 years ago by the original four Lords. The Lord of Science joined 15 years ago and the Lord of Gold 10 years ago.

Until the Lord of Science joined and created a cure for the affliction, there once existed a Red Plague that spread from the workers in the mines to the rest of Calimsharn. This Plague formed mutations on the diseased, until their very mind was broken and they became mere mindless beasts. The disease still affects the miners, but its effects are removed by the Vaccine that the Lord of Science developed.

Currently massively destroyed due to Red Warriors exploding, controlled by the God of the Desert.

Recent accounts also describe a developing power vacuum in the city following these crises.
