The bustling mercantile town of Triboar stands where the Long Road meets the Evermoor Way. Its name is thought to have come from a traveler’s tale of slaying three boars here in the same day, over four hundred winters ago. The town is built on flat, fertile land, with nearly half of its population living outside the town proper on sprawling ranches and neighboring farmsteads.
Triboar is a market for the horses raised by nearby ranches. Blacksmiths, harness-makers, and wagonworks flourish in town. A number of guides also operate out of Triboar, taking merchants and travelers across the Sword Coast for stiff fees (7 gold pieces per day, plus an eleven-day deposit).
Government
The town is ruled by a democratically elected Lord Protector, tasked with commanding the town’s militia and settling disputes. In 1486 DR, the Lord Protector was a Harper named Darathra Shendrel, who was later killed in a skirmish against the Calamity. The current Lord Protector is the former mayor Landall Hempshire.
Defences
The town operates a defense force called “The Twelve” — mounted patrols rotating on a tenday cycle. If necessary, Triboar can rally a well-armed militia of fifty rapidly, or three hundred within a day.
History
Triboar was among the first settlements founded in the Dessarin Valley after Waterdeep grew to prominence around 1000 DR. Over the centuries, it served as an assembly point for human armies against orc hordes from the northern mountains.
In 1486 DR, the town was first assaulted by a force of fire giants, orogs, and axe beak-mounted orcs. Only a month later, the powerful outlaw army of the Calamity attacked but was repelled with the help of Seekers.
